Have you ever imagined how life would be like if you lost all senses and ability to move? I have been given a task for my English class to try and simulate just that. Basically, I had to lie down on the floor or a bed. While lying down, I was not allowed to use any of my senses or move for 20 minutes. Not seeing and moving was simple but hearing and smelling were a bit tougher but I was able to find some simple solutions. I asked my parents to be more quiet for the 20 minutes and I also made sure to do the task before dinner to avoid any kind of strong smells. Not feeling is impossible to do but I simply imagined that I was floating in my mind.
My actual experience was very strange. To me, it felt like I was thinking more in just those 20 minutes then I had ever done before. This is obviously not true but I really felt that way. It did become a bit awkward at a few times because of the fact that I couldn’t move at all. I had a few moments when my body would jerk a little bit because of the lack of movement which was strange because I was not expecting something like that to happen. I almost fell asleep at one point but my body jerked me awake in a way. Even though I was technically still awake, I felt like part of my brain was drifting off into some kind of dream. Since I was slightly drifting into a dream, I had trouble actually focusing on other senses which is rather strange. After I was done, it felt like my body was readjusting to being able to move again and use all the natural senses. This gave me a bit of an idea of how it would feel if you suddenly got your senses back.
Overall, it was a very special experience and very worth experiencing because of the unique view that it gives you. I challenge all of you to try this task at home and leave a comment on this post talking about your experience. Good luck and don’t fall asleep!
